Mount Airy City Schools is pleased to announce that Mr. Levi Goins has been named the assistant principal of Mount Airy Middle School. Mr. Goins is replacing Nathan Soule who has accepted a job closer to his family.
Mr. Goins graduated from Mount Airy High School in 2002. He then attended the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill where he graduated with a B.S. in Biology and Minor in Chemistry in 2006. He went on to earn his teaching certiFicate in 2009 through the UNC Educational Licensure Program after working as a research lab technician at the UNC Neuroscience Center. He is currently working toward his M.Ed. in Educational Leadership from High Point University. He is married to Emily and they have two children, Maizey and Junah.
Mr. Goins started his educational career in 2008 teaching biology and ecology. In 2009, he returned to Mount Airy High School as a teacher. Over the past eight years he has taught Honors Biology, chemistry, and Honors Physics. In addition to teaching, he has worked to develop curriculum for science courses as North Carolina transitioned to the Essential Standards. Mr. Goins was voted by his peers as the 2014 Teacher of the Year for Mount Airy High School and went on to become the Mount Airy City Schools District Teacher of the Year.
In addition to teaching, Mr. Goins has taken on leadership roles at the school and district level. He has served as the Professional Learning Community Facilitator for his department as well as department chair. He is the RCR/DOW Chemical STEM Ambassador and has served as the STEAM Academy Lead Teacher for the district. Outside of the classroom he has served as the Head Coach for the Men’s Varsity Basketball team.

He went through a rigorous process to be selected as the High Point University candidate in the leadership program last year. He competed against aspiring administrators in our region and won a spot in this prestigious program. We know that Mr. Goins has been an outstanding teacher and coach for Mount Airy City Schools. I have complete confidence that he will also be an outstanding administrator given all of his skill, talent, and ability."

Mr. Goins is looking forward to this next chapter in his career. “I am excited for the opportunity to work with the staff and students at Mount Airy Middle School. The school has tremendous resources and I look forward to providing support to the school and the community in a new capacity.”
The Mount Airy City Schools Board of Education and administration are pleased to announce Mr. Goins as the new assistant principal of Mount Airy Middle School. He will begin his duties effective immediately.
